Bringing Carbon to Market: A Case Study of Enhanced Weathering - Enhanced weathering is a promising strategy for carbon dioxide removal at the gigaton scale, especially in agricultural areas where rock materials may enhance soil health and food security. Yet, scaling this approach to the gigaton level is encumbered by the complexities of accurately monitoring, reporting, and verifying the carbon captured, and subsequently integrating these measures into market transactions.

This project will focus on the necessary steps to move enhanced weathering from pilot-scale demonstration projects to the carbon market. This project intends to 1) identify advanced MRV tools that capitalize on state-of-the-art models and decision support tools; 2) develop pilot data collection, reporting, and practice-related protocols, and 3) integrate MRV with emissions accounting frameworks. Our goals are to address scientific uncertainties, define tradable carbon, and combine them to provide transferable tools for scaling enhanced rock weathering.
