Developing robust frameworks and methods for Monitoring, Reporting and Verification of mCDR - Oceans, which serve as a natural sink for CO2 emissions, cover 71 percent of the Earth’s surface. The scientific community is developing solutions to harness the ocean’s natural properties and deploy new technologies to capture carbon dioxide. However, it will be difficult to measure the efficacy of these solutions without trusted methods for MRV.

This team plans to evaluate the feasibility and the gaps of various marine CDR solutions. We will create an MRV framework for marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) and a detailed action plan to implement mCDR solutions. Our goal is to ensure that the mCDR market can operate with validated methods. The project will make it possible to evaluate CO2 capture technologies accurately and will thereby increase investment in mCDR technologies.
