Bringing carbon to market: A case study of enhanced weathering

Enhanced rock weathering speeds up the natural process where minerals in crushed rock react with rainwater to pull CO2 from the atmosphere. However, its potential is limited by the challenge of proving exactly how much carbon is captured. This project began creating the advanced tools and standardized rules needed to reliably measure, report, and verify the stored carbon. Solving this measurement problem will help make enhanced rock weathering a market-ready climate solution.

Spinout: TRACER platform

The TRACER platform was developed in 2025 to provide certainty for carbon markets.

Building a trusted analytical foundation.

Having proven the concept, the team is now transitioning the work into a longer-term effort with support from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. This next phase will focus on improving open-source models, establishing industry-wide benchmarks, and expanding to other carbon removal methods. The ultimate goal is to build a broad scientific and industry community to test and use this platform, making it the trusted analytical foundation for all carbon accounting.
