This project developed the Stanford Data Commons, an open-source platform that combines university data with Google's Data Commons to unlock sustainability research for public use. The platform allows users to query, visualize, and download datasets in real time on topics such as solar installations, air quality, and climate change projections. One such application is analyzing electrical grid data to identify unused capacity, enabling AI companies to optimize existing infrastructure rather than build new fossil-fuel plants to power their data centers.
