Methane emission estimation and detection from Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) with computer vision

The project seeks to contribute to climate change mitigation efforts for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs), a major but undermeasured source of agricultural greenhouse gases in the U.S. The proposed solution leverages computer vision and high-resolution satellite imagery to detect, map, and estimate CAFO emissions, which are currently poorly understood as a result of regulatory gaps and poor data. By building scalable tools and open datasets, the project seeks to improve emissions accounting, support enforcement, and advance climate policy using AI-driven environmental monitoring.
