Satellite monitoring of subsidence to inform adaptive flood risk management
Planetary intelligence cohort
Team: Rosemary Knight
Flooding, worsened by subsidence and aging infrastructure, impacts more than 1.6 billion people globally. Despite available satellite data, tools to translate subsidence information into actionable flood risk insights are lacking. This project proposes an online tool to monitor land elevation changes using satellite-derived data, enabling enhanced subsidence monitoring and improved flood risk management. By helping authorities adapt strategies, allocate resources, and update plans proactively, the tool aims to reduce economic losses, enhance resilience, and transform global flood risk management practices for local governments and communities.
