Sustainable water supplies to meet urban, agricultural and ecosystem needs: Scaling groundwater recharge solutions in California

This project aims to address groundwater depletion and freshwater availability by addressing barriers to scale Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) through dedicated recharge basins. In particular, the project examines knowledge gaps regarding MAR water quality and water conveyance during periods of surge flows. The team proposes a novel framework to incorporate the effects of climate change in MAR while delivering groundwater recharge basin design principles that can be easily replicated. The framework will be disseminated through key partnerships, as with the FloodMAR network, irrigation districts, and disadvantaged communities.
