Eligibility 

The Stanford Sustainability Accelerator Fellowship is open to individuals who:

  • Must have been awarded their PhD within the last three years. The PhD must be conferred by the start of the award term.
  • Must have no more than three years of prior postdoctoral experience by the start of the award term (not including additional months in their PhD lab post-conferral)
  • Must be eligible for a J-1 visa, (with sponsorship from Stanford). Exceptions must be discussed with program administration.
  • Must be committed full-time to the proposed project if awarded the fellowship.


Terms 

Approximately 2-4 fellowships are awarded per flagship destination. Fellows are sponsored through the Sustainability Accelerator in the Doerr School of Sustainability. Fellows can be hosted by any academic department in any of the seven Schools at Stanford University.

  • Fellows are appointed for a 1-year term with the option to renew for a second year, typically beginning June 1 and ending May 31.
  • Fellows receive a stipend of $85,000 a year, $50,000 in R&D funds (with an option for add on funding with additional justification), up to $2,000 in reimbursable relocation allowances, as well as benefits including health care coverage. Fellowship stipends are non-negotiable. 
  • This is an in-person program. Fellows must be at Stanford for the duration of their appointment.
